Obamacare

Jack  Says: If memory serves employers offering healthcare came out as a response to FDR’s wartime price controls. As it was a way to attract people / incentivize them. In the abstract having your employer be your agent on finding a 3rd party medical payment plan is very strange. We don’t get our car insurance or our home loans through our employers…

This is historically correct. I'm shooting from the hip, but memory tells me it was... Grumman, maybe? ...that originated the practice.

(Of course, as my friend Kathy Jackson pointed out, the whole way we view medical insurance in this country is messed up. Imagine if, every time you filled your gas tank on your car or got the oil changed, you filed a claim against your auto insurance?)

At a time when job-hopping got you raises faster than waiting for company internal promotions, Nixdorf Computer offered good personnel cheap interest mortgage loans (repayable immediately if you left) as a method of keeping them on board.

Y'all should have been at lunch today. Marc & Elliot were going at it hammer and tongs on Obamacare. It was entertaining for a while.
