Side Socket

Iowa Andy sent me the link. Good idea I think. Someday someone will redesign the entire residential power distribution system, or more likely it will go obsolete when everything runs on batteries. Meanwhile we are plugging things in willy-nilly. In my office I have 4 wall warts, 2 power strips, 9 out of 12 outlets are in use leaving only 3 available. We won't talk about all the data cables.

I hope you are keeping track of the amperage on each wallsocket. Here they are fused at 13A, after all, you don't want a fire IN the walls due to overheating of the wiring there !

The biggest power hog is the computer and I doubt whether it's much more than 5 amps. Everything else is a modern electronical gizmo that draws milliwatts.

On the separate line to my 700W emergence power generator I have sockets for the deep freeze, two refrigerators, the oil heating (circulation pump and controller), a lamp on each of 3 floors,
the doorbell, the garage door and a kitchen radio. It's surprising how the amperage adds up.
