I do not know if the particular sequence is important, but I started with
Dustbury, then followed his link to
an old Lester Bangs column and finally tuned in to
the Shaggs on YouTube. I haven't laughed that much since I don't know when. Maybe when Santa got run over by a reindeer back in aught nine. That would nineteen aught nine, you ninnies.
The sequence isn't as important as the destination.
ReplyDeleteOne aspect of this that I dearly love: the original LP came out on an almost-literally fly-by-night label -- not only were they never heard from again, but much of their inventory turned up in a trash bin -- and a CD reissue appeared on RCA Victor.
A CD reissue? Why? Comedy hits of the 60's?
ReplyDeleteI never laugh at the Shaggs. It's their undiluted earnestness that makes them worth the listen.
ReplyDeleteI didn't intend to laugh. I was totally into Lester's line of reasoning (?), but when I heard them I couldn't help myself, they were just so bloody awful. Well, that's my opinion. I can't stand classical music either. Music is very peculiar. Most of the stuff people recommend does absolutely nothing for me. I dun unnerstan it, cap'in.
