Manner of Death

Afghan policemen and villagers stand near a crater at the scene of suicide attack in Maidan Shar, the capital city of Wardak province south of Kabul on September 8, 2013. At least four Afghan intelligence agents were killed and dozens of civilians were wounded when a group of Taliban militants attacked an intelligence bureau in central Afghanistan, officials said. It just occurred to me that culture plays significant role in how you choose to leave this life. In America, most suicides are done in private. Some are done in public with the help of the police, but not many. In the middle East they are done in public and involve as many people as possible. America has a culture of self sufficiency, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you have no one to blame for your failure but yourself. No wonder most suicides are private. I wonder if in Moslem countries there might be a culture of 'everything is somebody else's fault', nothing is your fault, so it's not your fault you are miserable, it's everyone else, and they should share your misery.
Of course this is just idle speculation, and it may be that most suicides in the Middle East are also done in private, but I thought it kind of explained why there are so many suicide bombers over there and so few over here.
