MiG-29KUB Night Take-off From Vikramaditya
Russia took an old cruiser, converted it to an aircraft carrier, equipped it with a fleet of MiGs and sold it to India. This project has been underway for years, but it looks like it is finally going to be delivered. These aircraft have been specially built for this job. I'm not quite sure what that means. Tougher landing gear almost certainly. More powerful engines are likely. Note there is no catapult with a ski jump flight deck. They do use a couple of hydraulically actuated chocks to hold the airplane back until the engines are running at full power and they are ready to go, then they drop the chocks and off it goes.
Update August 2015 replaced deleted video with something similar. Can't see the chocks, but there is no doubt about when the afterburners come on.
Update April 2016 replaced deleted video. Why do these keep getting deleted?
