Nowadays most everyone has a mobile phone. So, instead of scrapping unused (wholly enclosed) phone booths, they are converted into "free libraries" aka book-swap stores, here in Germany.
I guess superman will have to go elsewhere to take off his clothes ;-)
That whole Superman changing his clothes in a phone booth never made any sense, at least not if you thought about it. But I never did, I just accepted that's what he did. Of course, it was never a critical element of the stories so I guess it didn't really matter.
My ancient eyesight is shot, so I don't read paper books any more. I read everything on my Kindle Paperwhite, including my library books. So I never go to the actual bricks-and-mortar public library, which is 15 minutes away in the "city". But the local cronies decided that they needed their own rural bricks-and-mortar library that would only be five minutes away. So they conned the county into buying a big old two-story house [beach front property!!] to be the new library. This was after the library board had already warned the county that this building was COMPLETELY unsuitable for a public library. For many reasons, especially including the blatant noncompliance with the ADA. It was a private home, FFS! But the local realtors and developers foresaw a huge paycheck if they could dump this old house on the county, so the deal went ahead. Meanwhile, my own neighborhood has commissioned a few of these tiny free library birdhouses. One minute away. Completely useless, but at least those ones were done by volunteers and they don't hit my tax bill directly.
