A day over the UK
What we have here is a time lapse video of air traffic over the British Isles. We have a great deal of traffic going into London and other major airports, but we also have short little flights that apparently go back and forth between non-existent locations. I suspect that most of these are to and from tiny islands, but I wonder if some of them might be to oil rigs. I mean there are a bunch of islands to the Northeast of Scotland, but I'm pretty sure there aren't any in the middle of the North Sea.
The video is from NATS:
NATS is the UK's leading provider of air traffic control services.Air Traffic Control is performed by private companies in socialist Europe? Who'd a thunk it? I mean, here is the good ol' USA, land of free enterprise and home of capitalist exploitation, Air Traffic Control is done by the gummint. Weird, man.

Some are MIL training flights and supersonic interceptions. Watch Valley and Macynelleth(sp?). Oil rig helicopters too. Supersonic MIL flights around southern Ireland too etc :-)
ReplyDeleteWatch Valley (Switzerland) isnt' visible here (heh), but Macynelleth is interesting. Watching that area, it's like everyone is specifically avoiding it, until near the end when a couple of flights go zig-zagging all over it.
ReplyDeleteValley is an RAF field on Anglesey island(NW Wales).
ReplyDeleteRe "like everyone is specifically avoiding it". They are, its a low-level training area (500 knots at 100 feet through the mountains). Stand on the hillside and watch the fighters coming through below you. Transponders are off.
