I'm watching a YouTube video about the loss of the HMS Hood and this scene pops up. I thought it was cool enough to rate a post. The Château Frontenac (on the right) is a hotel and is still in business. It is run by the same company that operates the Fairmont hotel is Hawaii. We stayed there when we went a couple of years ago.
Notes from the Wikipedia page about the HMS Hood:
- launched in 1918
- the largest warship in the world for 20 years
- circumnavigated the globe in 1923-24, which coincides with the above photo
- flagship of Force H that destroyed the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir
In May 1941, Hood and the battleship Prince of Wales were ordered to intercept the German battleship Bismarck and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen. On 24 May 1941, early in the Battle of the Denmark Strait, Hood was struck by several German shells, exploded, and sank within 3 minutes, with the loss of all but three of her crew of 1,418.
