Having designed and performed the initial site surveys, construction review and post construction site and utility restoration for miles of high and low pressure steam and chilled water distribution in a direct bury, 200+ year old site scenario, I really have no frame of reference for this sort of very large scale above ground work, but it sure would have saved me about 90% of my design time and 100% of my construction headaches working like this.
In other words, this operation is pretty damn easy compared to laying pipe in an area that has any existing utilities.
