Creepy movie about child murderers. Michael Keaton plays a man who murdered five children. Robert De Niro is the cop who caught him 25 years ago. Adam Scott is De Niro's adult son. His kid has disappeared and he is understandably losing his mind. Owen Teague plays Keaton's adult son who is carrying on his father's tradition of killing kids. Hamish Linklater plays Norman Collins, an eccentric collector of murder memorabilia.
Once again the cop on the spot, Amanda Beck, decides to charge ahead into danger without waiting for backup, and once again, we have the villain sneaking up behind her to stick a knife into her.
Murder mystery. All the pieces are there, someone just has to pick them up.
Shame, really, that I can no longer enjoy well-made interesting mob-related movies such as Casino, Goodfellas, Godfather II. My ability to identify with characters, see myself in their situations, wonder if I’d do what they do ends abruptly when the performer publicly and repeatedly DeNiros himself as a brain-damaged loon. DeNiro has type-cast himself as the classic and irredeemable lamebrain in the same way Kamelho bronzed her image as a word-salad chef.
ReplyDeleteIt’s kinda like sympathizing or empathizing with a woman who strangles her 3 li’l kids and then tries to blame it on society or the very convenient “voice in my head” which appeared only once, exactly at the moment she murdered her own babies, never during her innumerable sessions with sociologists and therapists. Ya gotta be nuts to give her anything other than a noose, or a biblical stoning, or a burning-at-the-stake.
Looks like a good idea for a movie; too bad I'll never see it.
