Coffee Bar Dream

Curved Coffee Bar*

I am in public place standing at the counter where they serve coffee and possibly food. The counter is long and I am standing near a gently curved corner. A pressed foam cup, the kind that you sometimes get from vending machines, appears on the counter with something in. I think it must be my drink even though it is not right in front of me so I reach over and take hold of it. There is a man sitting at the bar a few feet to my right reading a newspaper. Another man walks by behind us and calls out a greeting to me. He is carrying stuff and looks like he is going to work. I do not recognize him right off and in response to my puzzled expression he says that I used to come and see him and his name is Grigga or Griggs or something. He has mutton chop whiskers and now I recognize him, sort of, so I say 'oh, hi', or something equally vague and he goes on his way. Now the man with the newspaper looks up and asks me if he was a colleague from work and I say no, he's a counselor I used to go and see. He had an office up the block. For some reason I am having a hard time communicating the location. I go through several iterations, but the crux of the matter seems to be that when you are walking along a street of big commercial buildings you may not notice exactly how many buildings there are because some buildings are composed of several large blocks and if you are not paying attention you may not notice that they are both part of the same building. If you were navigating by counting buildings, you would want to know the number, but if you are using the address, you don't care about counting the buildings. Anyway it was about halfway up the block and it may have been anywhere from two to ten buildings away.

When the counselor said his name I recognized him, but now I am not so sure. I have been to see a number of head shrinkers, but he doesn't look like any of them. I think he was a character from a movie, but now he has morphed into a caricature of that character.

*The one I was at was all at the same height, extended off to the left quite a ways and there was no wall behind it. You could look out on an open area, like the concourse of an airport.
