Ask Google Map for this place and it shows up on the east coast of France. Yes, France does have an east coast on the Mediterranean. The castle is just a few miles north of the Spanish border.
Google has removed the 3D feature from Google Maps, now you can only get it on Google Earth and it's really slow. Using the 3D view on Google Maps you turn your view any which way and it would faithfully follow your mouse. Google Earth takes its own sweet time about responding to mouse inputs, and keeps moving after you have released the mouse. Maybe I need to add a zillion bytes of RAM to my two buck machine. I'm sure Google had a good reason for this change. Maybe my next two buck machine will have the requisite amount of RAM.
When You Think Tectonic Plates are Giant Snakes

I don't care what Science Man Dan says, it looks like a giant dead snake to me. All you perverts who think it looks like something else, just be quiet.
The gap between South America and Antarctica is like 500 miles. Since snakes usually have a circular cross section, and since the ocean is only a couple of miles deep, if this was a snake then we are only seeing the very top of it and the bulk of it would be thoroughly embedded in the crust of the Earth. Actually, I think it looks like a giant mud flow, but that would imply an uphill source for the mud and there just isn't any. So maybe Science Man Dan is right after all.
The video starts with trip down the flight line where a bunch of B1 Bombers are parked. Geez, there are a bunch of them. No B1s are stationed at Grand Forks anymore. The Air Force Timestells us that some are stationed at Ellsworth AFB, and Google Maps delivers.
I plotted the stops mentioned in a Daily Press story about the visit. Somehow I don't think the Russians flew directly from Moscow to Anchorage, a distance of of 4,400 miles. I suspect they made a couple of hops across Russia, maybe to Vladivostok, before flying over the Aleutian Islands to Anchorage.
Egypt has built a new complex of office buildings 20 miles east of Cairo. I have to agree with The Drive, it does look like an alien base. And then it struck me that this just like flying a virtual starship from Star Trek. Here I am looking down on an alien planet from outer space, zooming in to examine whatever I like. I have banks of powerful computers that can render structures in 3D. Okay, this is not an alien planet, although it sure looks like one, but we can go to Mars or the Moon just as easily.
The picture is a screen capture from Google Earth. This area on Google Maps is littered with so many labels that the placemark for the hotel is almost invisible. Regular Google Maps used to have a control that would turn off labels, but not anymore.
