Spider

Spider

Changed out the windshield wipers on the cars yesterday and once again I discovered that the generic windshield wiper bought by-the-numbers from the holy book of windshield wiper fitments for the rear glass on the Mitsubishi doesn't. But while I was there remembering that - oh yeah, I've been here before - I spotted this little guy. He has some orange flecks on his legs. I like spiders, generally speaking. They are very capable and not the least annoying, other than causing an occasional freak out by the women-folk.

Spider of the Day

Haven't put up a spider pic for a while, possibly because I've seen all the spiders at my house, and they are all kind of boring, or I need a better camera for close-ups. This pic is from Grainger in Austin, Texas, and this critter, besides having a little color, is big. Quote Grainger: "It was about 6 inches, front leg to rear leg. Startled me when I looked out the sliding glass door!"

Spider for the Day

This guy (gal?) is tiny. We are looking at a patch of skin on my hand about a centimeter square. The body must be like a sixteenth of an inch long, if that. And this critter has a brain that enables it to walk using eight legs, see, well, maybe not well, but certainly see something, figure out where to go, recognize possible food, plan and execute attacks. Pretty amazing that you can get that much computing power in that small a package. And it runs on dead bugs.

Spider for the Day

I thought this one came out exceptionally clear.

Spider for the Day

This is one of those cool little jumping spiders. He's maybe a quarter inch across. I spotted him outside the front door. I'm not really happy with the photo. It is not as clear as I would like. There seems to be a limit to how close I can get with my camera, even when it is set to close-up mode, and that limit seems to be around 8 or 9 inches. Any closer and it just can't focus. Maybe Santa will bring me a close up camera for Christmas.

Spider for the Day

I think this guy was a bit chilly. He was out in the garage.

Spider for the Day

Tiny Spider with Penny
I spotted this little guy on the basement stairs. This time I remembered to provide a scale.
