A friend of mine is dealing with dry eyes. It's irritating and annoying. They've been going to a specialist for treatment. It's been expensive, but they seem to be making progress. Apparently this is the next step.

Did you know that the largest lobby we have in the United States is the pharmaceutical industry? It is the largest, by a long shot, as it solidly towers over all of the others. Let me share some numbers with you. Pharma spends approximately $380,000,000 (three hundred eighty million) every year lobbying Congress. To give you some perspective, the second largest lobby industry in our nation is the electronics manufacturing industry, and it spends about $250,000,000 million a year lobbying Congress. The third largest is the insurance industry which spends about $150,000,000 million a year lobbying Congress. All the other industries that lobby simply pale in comparison. These statistics alone reveal so much.
$380 million is almost $1 million per congress critter, which is roughly the same amount we spend to put an infantry man on the front lines for one year in one of our foreign wars.
All this noise about money and medicine is mostly just that - noise. The more noise, the less room for rational thought.
Drugs can be amazing. There are many drugs that are very effective at curing, or at least alleviating the symptoms of, a disease. Problem is that people come in a variety of flavors and no matter how well a drug works for most people, there are going to be people for whom this drug is ineffective, or worse yet, causes an adverse reaction.
How much do we spend on drugs? Google knows:
- The United States has the highest per capita prescription drug spending among comparable nations, averaging $1,432 per person in 2021.
- Total spending on prescription drugs in the US reached $378 billion in 2021, making up almost 9% of healthcare spending and over 1.6% of the nation's gross domestic product.
So the lobbying expense is one-tenth of one percent of the total revenue.

Life in a woman's prison in Argentina, and what a life it is, and what a nasty ass bunch of women. Guys ain't got nothin' on these bitches.
Story opens with a small group of women being transported to prison in a van. One of the women is the girlfriend of a for-real gangster and he stages an attack on the convoy. The van goes off the road and into a river. Boyfriend has a boat, swoops up to the van and rescues his girl but leaves the others chained up in the rapidly sinking van. One older broad manages to get hold of the keys and manages to unlock most of the other women who all swim to shore.
I'm thinking the boyfriend is a for-real shithead. How can you abandon a bunch of women who are likely to drown in this situation? Then I realize, the women are not part of his tribe, so he doesn't care. He's a savage, and he's at war. You're not part of his tribe, so screw you.
Inside the prison, the prisoners are divided into different groups. One is for women who are pregnant or have kids. Women are allowed to keep their kids up till age five, then they go to foster homes. Another group is making porn videos ala Andrew Tate. There are a couple of other groups. Never did figure out exactly what their deal was. Drugs and housekeeping, maybe.
La Borges, the older broad, was part of a criminal organization and understands how these things work. Not much later, Galacia, the gal who escaped, is apprehended and is brought to this same prison. Needless to say, there is bad blood between her and the others who escaped the van. Galacia is vicious and means to be top dog in the prison. Borges is trying organize her girls to stand against her, but it's hard to make an effective team when some of her girls are not too bright, not to mention flakey.
The show is pretty amazing.
P. S. Supposedly you can turn on subtitles AND choose the language in embedded YouTube videos, but I haven't been able to make it work. Turning on the subtitles works, but selecting the language doesn't. Might be Bloggers fault, mucking with the special characters.

Had lunch here last Friday. The place is like a throwback to the fifties with a dining room, cocktail lounge and live jazz at night. Very plush, and very good food, even my low rent cheeseburger was delicious.

There was a sign near the entrance proclaiming Wall to Wall Soul, and photos all around the dining room of black musicians, most of whom I had never heard of. I did recognize some of the tunes being played.

This fine Mustang was in the parking lot when we left. Just amazing since it's at least 50 years old.
