Néro the Assassin | Official Trailer | Netflix
Netflix
1504 in France and there is a drought. There was a big drought in Europe in 1540. You don't suppose they got the four and the zero transposed, do you? I do. Anyway, the situation is grim, but doesn't keep people from lusting after power and killing people to get their way. Matter of fact, it gives some people an opportunity to wreak havoc. We have a nutcase leading the pentitents who claims people have not been been penitent enough and that's why god is withholding the rain. The pentitents work to rectify this situation by cutting off people's noses, ears, fingers and even heads. Lovely bunch of folks.
That's the background. In the foreground we have a fat cat, his daughter, his number one assassin, the assassin's daughter, a one eyed witch, and a couple of dark skinned soldiers, one male and one female. All of these people change loyalties with every episode. It basically makes the story incoherent.
There is a bit of a love story and there is plenty of fighting, but the story is weak, weak, weak.

Totally agree; Here was my review on FB Series Review: Nero the Assassin (Netflix, 8 ep. subbed and dubbed)
This French series is about an amoral assassin (in something like the 1600's) who discovers his daughter is being sought out by a witch to usher in Satan and the apocalypse. Altho things aren't as they seem.
I cannot recommend this series. At first I thought it was interesting to watch characters with no morals interact and betray each other at every turn. Even "noble" intentions were carried out ruthlessly and heinously. Secondly it's violent and the violence is ugly.
Then, (SPOILERS) the witches turn out to be the "good" guys, even tho clearly their magic is ugly and corrupting, while the Church ultimately is evil and power hungry.
The plot keeps you guessing at first, but the constant betrayal and bashing of faith became tiresome to me. THe dub was pretty good. The acting and production values were good, but couldn't overcome the narrative that left me unsatisfied and annoyed. Don't put yourself through it. 3 stars out of 10.
