Rt 66 Skyview Drive-In Litchfield. IL

Drive-in theaters still exist! I haven't seen one in ages. This one is still in business. Seeing that the titles on the marquee are old films, I got to wondering if they were still using film projectors. No, they are not:

Rt 66 Skyview Drive-In in Litchfield, Illinois uses digital projection. The theater converted from traditional 35mm film to digital projection in 2013 when major film studios stopped distributing 35mm prints.

Are any theaters still using actual film? Yes, quite a few. Sprocket School maintains a list of theaters still using analog projectors.

This is kind of a long video, but it moves right along. Wes doesn't have just one problem, just when you think the truck is fixed and the video is over you find out that there is another one. New fangled plastic parts appear several times. 

In the last three minutes he gives an economic report which is especially interesting. I would like to blame the fact that he is in Illinois, but I don't know if that really makes any difference.

Lois Lane

Cool, a bronze statue of Lois Lane, intrepid reporter for the Daily Planet.

At least ten women have portrayed Lois in live action films, and twice that many have (presumably) done her voice in animated ones. My favorite was Margot Kidder because, well, Margot Kidder. One of the inspirations for the character came from Nellie Bly, pen name of Elizabeth Jane Cochrane. The pen name comes from a Stephen Foster song.

Fort Madison Pivot Bridge

We drove over to Nauvoo (Illinois) for dinner one night and got caught by the bridge opening up. This happens several times a day. Wikipedia says 2,000 times a year, which works out to about 6 times a day. On the other hand there are upwards of 75 trains a day crossing the bridge and traversing the length of Fort Madison every day. Going to the marina you are almost certain to get held up by a train.
