Earth Shot

Earth - NASA’s Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman, Friday, April 3, 2026 [NASA via AP]

The Artemis spaceship is only halfway to the moon. How can that be? The took off days ago, why aren't they there yet? The moon can't be that far away, can it? Hmmph, I guess it can. They only passed the halfway mark today, they won't get to the moon till Monday.

I'm thinking we are looking at the world upside down, south pole at the top, north pole at the bottom, and the big brown smudge is Africa. I'm thinking it's Africa because there appears to be something hanging off the bottom of the big brown smudge, and I suspect that something is Spain.

The image is a little funny because that bright crescent along the lower right quadrant of the Earth makes me think the sun is just below that horizon, but if the sun is below the horizon, how is that the whole Earth is illuminated? Has NASA invented the brightest flash in the world?
