A court in Argentina has ruled that a shy orangutan who spent the last 20 years in a zoo can be granted some legal rights enjoyed by humans. - BBCI think this is a step in the right direction. A fundamental part of our civilization / lifestyle is that with rights come responsibilities. People have been hollering about rights for like forever, but the responsibilities part gets pretty short shrift. Which is one reason things are as screwed up as they are. If the courts can do something for the great apes, I'm all in favor of it. Of course this is happening in Argentina where it is almost a non-issue, not in Africa which is where the big problem is.
