Comments
I've been getting hit with spam comments lately. Not a huge number, but enough to be annoying, so I have turned on word verification. Hopefully this will solve the problem and not annoy too many real people.

How a Bot could cope with word verification:
Slice the picture up until it gets one pattern (=letter) per slice.
Feed each slice through a Bayesian pattern recogniser against a database of 62 characters only (A-Z,a-z,0-9), adjusting slices for optimal recognition.
Concatenate recognised characters and try them.
It may not work all the time, but even 50% is an acceptable rate for spambots. I'm getting over 95% on such clear characters as yours, you need fuzzier characters :-(
I have thought that as well. I suspect it's more trouble for the spammer's than it's worth. It's just another battle for global domination. Spammers think up new methods of attack, Bravehearts come up with new defenses.
As for your 95%: are you telling me you are a spambot?
