Pic of the Day
Pangong Lake in Kashmir India. We have a picture because India has announced plans to build a solar telescope in the area. They already have an observatory at Hanle, which is about 75 miles South of this lake. The lake is at an elevation of 14,270 feet, the observatory at Hanle is just a tad higher at 14,764 feet. Both of these are 3,000 feet higher than the top of our local volcanic peak, Mt. Hood. Since we are doing pictures, here's another one.
I found this attached to another story about the proposed solar observatory. Since this telescope looks to about 30 meters in diameter (those are cars parked down by the base), and the solar telescope is only supposed to be 2 meters in diameter, I think they just included this picture for the same reason I did: it looks cool.
