House Shenanigans

Great stuff from Knuckledraggin My Life Away. Follow the link for the whole story.

The CR That Wasn't by T. L. Davis

Interesting few days in congress and actually a good class on government corruption. The ugly sausage-making of the system is completely exposed by these shenanigans. Trying to back the people into a corner, the resident GOP/POS Speaker Mike Johnson attempted to dump a 1,547 page “continuing resolution” (CR) which should contain a few lines of text stating simply that current funding will be extended for a specific period of time. Instead it included a pay raise for Congress, funding of a key part of the government censorship of the people and a defense for the January 6 committee from investigation.

The leadership of the House: Johnson, Scalise, et al praised it as a tough but fair bill. It wasn’t, it was pork. It wasn’t even particularly good for the GOP. Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy and other conservative bloggers and influencers rose up against it. This is the key point, this was the people rebelling against a horrible omnibus bill disguised as a CR, not the dictates of Musk, Ramaswamy or Trump.

Musk & Ramaswamy are NOT the people, they were not even elected by the people.
They are billionaires pushing legally elected representatives of the people to do their bidding.

Bruce, as such they have no vested interest in the status quo because most of the people there are, in fact, the problem. Many people have proposed that every bill must include a CBO cost statement and provisions for the taxes necessary for funding.

OK, but solution is for the voters to replace the congress critters that aren't listening to their constituents, not to allow billionaires to bully the elected reps into actions that benefit their peers at the expense of the people.

If the caped crusader says I'll reduce your taxes by half, you agree.
But then discover the government has no money to provide any services and you can't afford the buy the now privatized services even with a 50% tax cut.
Then you discover much of the 50% you still pay is going to the caped crusader in contracts.
But you have no recourse because he wasn't elected so can't be held responsible.
