First flight was in 1933. 740 were made before the end of WW2. The Walrus rescued 1,000 Allied fliers who had been shot down over water. It was not a fast airplane:
- maximum speed 135 MPH
- cruise 92 MPH
- landing speed 57 MPH
Landing speed was so low it could land on a carrier despite not having a tailhook.
