Police State

Seat Belt Public Service Display
A while back I heard that the police were not stopping people solely for not wearing their seatbelts. Now there are ads warning people to wear their seatbelts or face a $100 fine.

I was talking to a neighbor of mine, a recently retired police officer, the other day. He is embarking on a campaign against local government waste. The first target of his ire is the $100,000 the local police got from the federal government for seatbelt enforcement. This is in a district that has a 98% compliance rate. He seemed to be of the opinion that 98% compliance was as good as you were going to get no matter what you did, and I agree. Not everybody thinks alike, and no matter what laws are passed or how strongly they are enforced, you are not going to be able to force everyone to think alike.

So buckle up, both of you sinners, or face the financial wrath of the strong arm of the law!
