Pic of the Day

Bougainville Police Officer Victor Sihung, attached to an Australian Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, assists with the removal of World War II mortar rounds in the Torokina district during Operation RENDER SAFE 14.

Since this operation is being conducted in a tropical jungle, the sweat on Officer Victor's brow could just be due to atmospheric conditions, but with the reputed instability of antique explosives he could be sweating like that in arctic conditions. I don't know, but maybe they had some way of identifying shells that were safe to handle, or maybe they've got a nasty job to do in a nasty place, and they don't really care whether they get out of there in one piece or several, as long as they can leave.

Update June 2019: Bougainville is a territory of New Guinea. I'm making this note so I can find this picture next time I am looking for it.
