Thai Elephants at the King's funeral |
It just occurred to me that I have never heard of anyone employing rhinoceros's in any kind of endeavor. People use elephants for all kinds of things: hauling, moving, carrying. Hannibal even used them in warfare. Admittedly, elephants have trunks which are very handy, but they are not required for simply carrying people on their backs. Rhinos are big and strong and could no doubt pull large wagons if they were harnessed and they were willing. And in warfare, a rhino would be a formidable weapon. So why hasn't anyone put rhinos to work? Are they that ornery? Or are they just too scary?

Probably because we're too busy killing them all to employ them in any sort of useful way. There are like 5 left, anyway.
