Origin of Electronicalness in Silicon Forest

Federal Wireless Tower, Hillsboro Oregon

My better half turned this one up:

Happy 150th birthday to the bustling and prosperous city of Hillsboro, fifth-largest in the state of Oregon! Incorporated on October 19, 1876, the town was named after pioneer David Hill. I doubt there's anyone around who remembers this, but for 31 years (1921–1952), Hillsboro was the home of the second-tallest steel tower in the world—stretching 626 feet into the sky, behind only the Eiffel Tower—and encircled by eight shorter towers. Sounds like Stonehenge! But it was a gigantic, multi-purpose international communications facility that transmitted telegram messages around the world, and communiqués to and from ships at sea 1,000 miles away. Today? It's the Meriwether National Golf Club.

Wikipedia has a page about this thing.

Tektronix got started just after WW2 in Beaverton, which is next door to Hillsboro.

Intel arrived in 1974 in Aloha, which is also next door to Hillsboro.
