Ultimate Computer Nightmare

Foxfier is talking about troubles with their blogging editor. I have been having a lot of trouble with Bloggers new editor. I thought I would comiserate, so I tried to leave a comment:

Re: “I don’t mind the idea of paying a few bucks a month, and have been playing with the idea for a while. $25 a year is in the ha-ha-ha-NO zone”. $2 a month is too much? Am I missing something?

I’m paying YouTube $12 a month to avoid the ads and $15 a month to Netflix and I think I’m easily getting my moneys worth. I’m also paying $200 a month for cable TV which is a chunk of change but it keeps peace in the house.

Blogger (Google’s blogging tool) has a new editor too, and that’s what I thought you were talking about. It has all kinds of problems, like half of the old stuff that used to work doesn’t and everything else is just different.

But when I click on [POST COMMENT] it wants me to login, which I attempt to do, except I have no idea what my Wordpress password is, and Chrome has never been able to keep track of my passwords for Wordpress never mind that it lost all of my passwords last weekend. Okay, so I type fuckyouwordpress because I vaguely remember that was what I entered for a password the last time this happened and it comes back with:

Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!

So I don't know if my comment got posted or not, so I hit the back arrow (top left in browser's tool bar) and there is my comment in the editing window, but when I try to copy it, two thirds of it disappears.

Okay, Wordpress, you skank, I can get around this. Click on forward arrow and then back arrow and then instead of just highlighting the text I want, I 'save the page' (clicking on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the browser gets you a menu, two-thirds of the way down there is More tools. Click that and you get another menu. Save page as is the first entry there.) Pull up the web page in a text editor and now I can search for, find, highlight and copy my comment and paste it here.

I suppose this is what you should expect from free services. We're just lucky they work at all.

Antonov transport aircraft An-178

Ukranian aircraft manufacturer Antonov has just completed their first aircraft built without using any parts from Russia.  "2/3 of the equipment of this aircraft is supplied from the United States, and another third - domestic equipment."

Anotonov has appeared here before, though Blogger seems to be losing it's mind, so the link might not return anything. I am tempted to start ranting about the idiot-savants working at Google who seem to be following Apple and Microsoft into the "user-friendly" hell of fancy bullshit that doesn't work, but then I realize that Blogger is a free service so I shouldn't complain. (Continues cursing the idiot technocrats, the world and the gods that made it).

Akira Kurosawa made a bunch of films. I've seen a couple of his samurai movies, Seven Samurai is one. Anyway, he's kind of famous.

The samurai sword fighting video game Ghost of Tsushima offers Kurosawa Mode which makes everything look like one of Kurosawa's old samurai movies.

Sorry for the sad picture. I took a very nice one using the Magnifier app on my smart phone, but I neglected to press Save because why should I have to do that? I don't have to do it with the Camera app. Anyway, the good pictures vanished and I am left with this one. Those are centimeters marked off on the ruler so you can see how monstrous this bug is.

Actually the bug is what we used to call a 'sweat bee' back in Ohio. They are kind of odd. They show up occasionally, buzz around for awhile, never seem to land anywhere and never bite or sting anyone. Basically harmless. This one was lying on his back on the table waving his legs feebly.

I have seen several of the videos from the Lock Picking Lawyer and usually he demonstrates how easy it is pick a mechanical lock using basic lock picking tools, but on this occasion he uses brute force, in this case a couple of kilowatts of electricity.

Then I came across this cartoon from 1900 the purports to show just how dangerous this new fangled electricity thing can be.

Last night we are watching Black Money Love (a Turkish soap opera) and the detectives are sitting around the dinner table, an electrical problem gets mentioned and one cop says to another 'you don't even know how to change a light bulb'. Not too long I wouldn't have been able to conceive of such a thing, but I have come to realize that people's skills very widely and there certainly are people who are completely baffled by something as simple as changing a light bulb. Some people just don't do well with things.
