| Malmaison Birmingham UK |
I'm reading A Quantum Mythology by Gavin Smith and on page 185 Grace and DuBois are in "a room at the Malmaison in the Mailbox, close to the center of Birmingham." Malmaison is a hotel chain in the UK. This one in Birmingham is in a converted Royal Mail sorting facility, hence The Mailbox.
The name Malmaison comes from the Château de Malmaison:
Formerly the residence of Empress Joséphine de Beauharnais, . . . it was the headquarters of the French government from 1800 to 1802, and Napoleon's last residence in France at the end of the Hundred Days in 1815.
The French word mal means wrong, and maison means house, so malmaison is the 'wrong house'. Google's explanation for the origin of the name:
The name is widely thought to stem from a hideout or base used by Norman raiders in the 9th and 13th centuries to launch attacks on the surrounding region.
