The motorcycle wasn't their first ride, it was just the best picture in The Abernathy Boys Go for a Ride by H. D. Miller. It's a fine story that shows how much the world has changed in the last hundred years.

That story is just so hard to believe but I've read about them in a bunch of places and it might be embellished by the writers but damn little, most of it is verified. It's just so hard to get my head around a 6 and 10 year olds riding horses 2000 miles to NYC, sleeping in bedrolls and writing checks for provisions..And did it with Dad's blessing.
