Hollywood & Hightower

Hollywood & Hightower

Earth - Sun - Film has post with this picture. The post is about graves. The whole area is one big cemetery.

Google Streetview of Hollywood & Hightower

Just for grins, I ask Google Maps for this intersection (shown on the street signs in the picture) and it takes me right there. It doesn't take me long to arrive at a close approximation of the image. The angle is slightly different because Streetview only has views from specific points, the photo was taken from between those two points.

Bizarre Cell Phone Tower

Just down the road is the Hollifield Mortuary. There is a bizarre cell phone tower on the grounds.

I've seen those in north NJ along the Garden State Parkway, they look stupid year round.

Got stuck working for early cell providers in Vermont in the mid to late nineties trying to navigate the permit process for towers. Local development review boards would see us on the agenda and make sure plenty of citizenry showed up to cry & moan about how the towers were going to ruin views and consequently the tourism industry. NIMBY on steroids!

The towers that mimic trees were in response to that trend.

Over a 3 year period I got a total of 2 towers erected. Soon after the nay sayers figured out that the tourists (and their $$$) they so loved would do nothing but cry & moan about the lack of cell service. Then they couldn't build towers fast enough, view be damned.

I wondered whether all the tiny twigs were some kind of fancy new antennae or just decoration. Thanks for clearing that up.
