Repair Wars on Make: is a good story about legal battles being fought between manufacturers and people who want to be able to repair their own equipment. I've been hearing stories about John Deere tractors and Apple products for while now, but I'd didn't realize the problem was so pervasive.

Home appliances too, refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, washers/dryers and the rest have become more expensive internet connected electronic nightmares that self destruct from post blackout voltage surges or unexplained causes.
