Propaganda

Propaganda Machine

It doesn't matter what you believe and it doesn't matter who you vote for. It doesn't even matter if you vote for the Republicans or the Democrats. All your well reasoned discourse on who's been good, who's been bad and who ought to be thrown in the hoosegow counts for diddly squat. The only thing that matters is who is in charge of the narrative being pumped out by the major media outlets. That's what decides elections and that's how the kleptocrats who are bleeding this country dry keep hold of the reins of power.

Elon made a good start by buying Twitter, but it's just a start. I don't know if there are any right thinking individuals with enough clout to take over The New York Times and the big three broadcast networks.

I'm not sure whether the guys who are controlling the narrative are even aware of what they are doing. They might just be going by the numbers - we shovel shit out the door and people eat it up. The more people eat it up, the more advertising revenue we collect, the more revenue we collect, the more power we accrue, so keep shoveling that shit, you peon reporters.

The scene in Citizen Kane tells the story: Kane's accountant is telling him he lost a million dollars at his newspapers that year. Kane acknowledges that it true, and that he will likely loose a million this year as well. Then he quips: at that rate, I'll be broke in 60 years.

That's the problem and the opportunity: The NYT can loose money hand over fist, as long as the owners are comfortable with that level of loss. The real question: would the owners sell it to somebody who would take it to the Right? I imagine, collectively, the owners of the media would make sure it got sold it to someone more in line with their goals.
