American Primeval - Netflix Series

American Primeval | Official Trailer | Netflix
Netflix

1850s, in the American West. Sara Holloway, wanted for murdering her husband back in Philidelphia, takes a train the end of the line and then takes a wagon to 'Ft. Bridger'. She still has a zillion miles to go, someplace farther west, but the country is wild and winter is coming on. She manages to hook up with a group of pioneers heading west. Unfortunately, they are camped on a piece of ground claimed by the Mormons. The Navoo Mormons are trying to establish their own place in America and the U. S. Government disagrees to the point of sending a troop of cavalry. The Navoo Militia are enforcing the boundaries of their 'nation' with violent attacks, massacres actually, and blaming the attacks on the injuns, of which there seem to be half a dozen flavors, any of which make take offense at what you say and massacre you and yours. So the Navoo are kind of getting away with blaming the injuns. But they don't kill quite everybody when they raid the pioneer encampment and now there are survivors out running around loose. Given the situation, the odds of any of them surviving are less than zero, but people do occasionally survive desperate situations, that's where we get our legends, and that's where we get this story. Whether it is true or not makes no difference. All the horrible things depicted in the show happened. We only know about these things because somebody survived to tell the tale. And it's a hell of a tale.

Sara starts the show as a flaming idiot, but if you think about it for a minute, it makes perfect sense. She just hopped on a train after killing her husband and took it as far west as it would go. A week ago she was hob-nobing with the swells on the east coast and now she's in God's own Wild West with people getting kilt left, right and center. Her circumstances, to say the least, have changed. She's a bit of a slow learner, but by the end of second episode I think she finally realizes just how deep the shit is that she is in. At least I hope so. If she doesn't smarten up right quick I'm gonna start yelling at the screen. But Netflix wouldn't do that to us, would it? Have an absolute idiot survive this situation?
