Out and About

Nurses on strike - Jonathan House

Drove by St. Vincent's Hospital on our way into Portland and there were what looked like a couple of hundred strikers lining the sidewalk, all dressed in green ponchos and carrying signs like those is the picture above. I would have liked to take a picture, but we were on a mission and my phone camera is not a point-and-shoot device.

Bookshelf at Powell's

Went to Powell's, head to the science fiction section, turn the corner and look what jumps out at me - a book titled RAPE. Well, that's an edgy title. Then I look up and see that I am in the Sociology section. Science fiction has been moved the second floor. Apparently the whole store has been reorganized.

Farmhouse Kitchen

Sorry for the bad picture. I'm always on the lookout for good places to eat and I come across Farmhouse Kitchen. That sounds great, but then I look at the poster in the window and realize it's a Thai restaurant. I know some people really like Thai food, but I ain't one of  'em. I've been to Thai places a few times but never had anything I enjoyed. Last time I was in a Thai place I asked for very mild spice and the dish I got was hotter than blue blazes. I don't know if this was their version of mild or whether something got lost in translation. Makes no difference, no Thai for me.
