Ice Fishing

Hi Chuck,

I watched a lot of "Ice Road Truckers" episodes and I learned that even 36" thick ice sags under the wheels of a semi. As a result, as the truck drives across the frozen lake, the sag moves with it and actually creates a "bow wave" under the ice. As a result, they have to keep their speed down, I think, to around 12 mph. If they don't, especially when approaching the transition from ice to land, the bow wave can cause the ice ahead to explode upwards, and land the truck in the (cold) drink. Think about it.
