Oregon GOP

The Oregon GOP (Grand Old Party, otherwise known as the Republican Party) has been in decline lately. The Pamplin Tribune has a story surveying some of the major players. This might be the core of the problem:

When she returned to the Legislature as a senator in 2001, Clarno said she heard Atiyeh speak at the annual Dorchester Conference and endorsed his approach. "He said we will not win statewide until we stop making the social issues a litmus test," she recalled.

If they stick with fiscal responsibility they might make some headway.

Paywall issue aside, the Portland Tribune is a crappy paper. Not merely poorly written, the article is neither fair nor balanced.

Personally, I have met many of the politicos mentioned in the article. None of them inspires any sort of confidence. Not one of them.

Oregon still has many conservatives, but no one, not even the failed candidates, has ever really represented conservative interests.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no one in the pipeline for a future run. People are pissed off, but I don't see much hope.

Still, overall, it remains a relatively nice place to live, survive, endure. Great natural beauty, mild weather, plenty of options.
