This is a fun little monster story set in 1827 in London. The year is important because several historical figures appear in the story.
It's got all the elements of a grisly murder mystery, plus it's got an accurate view of life in London in the early 19th Century (the streets are all mud). There is a political war being fought between Robert Peel's reform movement and the Christian conservatives. The Christian's primary issue being that you can't be resurrected if your body is dismembered. Robert Peel and the forces of science want to access to pauper's bodies for their anatomy studies which would give them a more reliable supply of corpses and as a bonus would put an end to the business of grave robbing. Of course, if you make your living from grave robbing, you are going to be opposed to the passage of The Anatomy Act of 1827, er 1832.
Our man, Sean Bean, is one of the Bow Street Runners, gets called to investigate a dead body lying on the mudflats along the Thames river. He discovers a Frankenstein-like corpse, which gets the attention of Robert Peel as he suspects someone may be trying to discredit his proposed law with sensational crimes.
P.S. I wrote this back in September of 2021, but it didn't get published. I don't know why, so I'm trying again. Might be because I was intending to say something more about exploding coffins, but I don't remember what that might have been.
