That's a brutal way to make a living. They work hard whether feast or famine, and there's a real danger of getting hurt or worse. My uncle had a fishing boat with a partner down in Homer and after 3 years sold the boat.

Yeah, but he likes the money. Nick has spent half his life in Alaska. They have a very different outlook on life up there.

That's true, my two uncles went up there from MA in a brand new 1949 Ford pickup stopping five times to change the oil. One gave it up in 1955 and the other (one with the boat) stayed until the 1990s. Completely different perspective, I suspect because mother nature is more extreme and dangerous. Hard to worry about your 401k when a Grizzly has you up a tree.
