Reading The Mauritius Command by Patrick O'Brian (volume 4 in the series) I came across a verse and since I'm all about poetry these days (yeah, sure) and because it illustrates our propensity for silly behaviors and because it's amusing, I include it here along with the explanation. The story is set in the early 1800's and the English are at war with Napoleon, again.
