The dip happened in 1974. Warren lost over half of his fortune, about $24 million. During the first thirty years of this chart, the value of his fortune increased by a factor of 5,000, but it doesn't even raise the red line above zero. Only when he gets to a billion dollars in the 1980s does the red line start moving up.
